THE COMMUNITY OF LUTHER
A Charming Town in the Oklahoma City Metro Area
Luther is a rural community located in the far northeastern area of Oklahoma County. Situated along the iconic Route 66, Luther has the best that rural living can offer with quick access to Oklahoma City and Edmond.
Over the last two decades, Luther has experienced a considerable amount of growth, as people seek to move out of the immediate Oklahoma City area. With a low cost of living and an abundance of land, the town has grown from just 612 people in 2000 to an estimated 1,755 in 2018. The average home price falls around $131,600, with home values increasing more than 4% in the last 10 years.
Luther's rural setting offers residents plenty of green spaces, quiet neighborhoods, and clean air. Combined with the easy access to Route 66 and the Turner Turnpike, the town affords those looking for a slower-paced way of life within reach of city amenities a perfect place to call home.
Luther was established in 1898 after being platted by Luther F. Aldrich of Cumberland County, IL. As the railroad made its way down what is now Route 66, C.G. Jones made several land purchases to build towns in Oklahoma Territory. What is now called Luther was originally the Garnettville Community, and was part of the original 40 acres purchased by Luther F. Aldrich. The town was later named after C.G. Jones' son Luther Jones.
The small community offers a great opportunity for students to receive a quality education with a great student to teacher ratios and above-average school test scores. The small-town school experience affords students the opportunity for more one-on-one teaching experiences.
Make the short drive down Route 66 to Arcadia and grab a six-pack of soda from Pops and explore the historic Round Barn, or head north to Guthrie and tour the historic Victorian architecture of Oklahoma's first state capital. Lake Aradia with all an abundance of outdoor activities is just a short drive away.
Because Luther is located along Route 66 and has access to the Turner Turnpike, taking a drive into Oklahoma City and the budding Bricktown District is a breeze. Explore the local food, drinks, and entertainment that Oklahoma City offers with just a 20-minute drive into downtown!
